How do solar panels save me money on my electricity bill?

A. There are two main ways that solar panels will save you money!

Installing a solar power system without a battery

When you install solar panels onto the roof of your home or business they will produce electricity, this electricity is fed directly into your premises, when the sun is shining. Any excess electricity produced by your solar panels is fed directly back into the national power grid. You will receive a credit for this electricity, known as feed-in tariff, from your electricity supplier.

Installing a solar battery

As above, except that now your solar power system will also be able to store excess electricity in a battery, which will be used to power your home once the sun goes down. Once your battery is fully charged, any excess electricity will still be fed into the grid, so you can receive credits from your supplier. If you use all the electricity in your battery, don’t worry, your electricity supply will be automatically switched over to the national grid.

In both cases all of these events happen automatically – you don’t have to do a thing! Your premises is still connected to the grid and automatically draws electricity from it at any time to supplement your solar power production.

Q. Do I need to be connected to the grid?

No, at GV Wind and Solar, I have accreditation to design off grid PV and stand alone power systems.

Q: Why should I install a solar power system in my home or business?

A: Solar power is a renewable source of energy that reduces our reliance on coal-powered electricity. Aside from reducing reliance on coal power, you can actually save thousands of dollars off your electricity bill annually. While there are costs involved to install a solar power system, these costs will be recouped as the panels reduce or even eliminate your electricity bills. In fact, most systems pay for themselves within a matter of years, and with the constant rise in electricity prices they are an excellent solution to saving money.

Q: What would I be saving on my electricity bill if I were to install solar power?

A: Savings to your bills can vary between customers depending on their location, electricity use patterns and other factors. Using the Clean Energy Council’s system performance estimator,  I can determine in advance of installation what the optimum system for your needs will produce in energy throughout the year.

Q: Is GV Wind and Solar an accredited designer of solar panel systems?

A: Yes, I am fully accredited to design solar systems for domestic and commercial premises. I work use a local company who is fully accredited to install solar panel systems.

Q: What information do I need to provide to receive an accurate proposal?

A: All we require from you is your most recent electrical bill or, if possible, a bill from both summer and winter seasons. After that, we’ll arrange a meeting and site visit to see if your property is suitable to have a solar energy system installed.

Q: Will I receive a government rebate?

A: Yes, the rebate that you will receive is a government funded Small-scale technology certificates. This rebate allows me to give you an upfront discount for your PV solar. You also receive a feed-in tariff from your retailer for any exported energy to the grid.
